Better than being the president
What if a girl became World Chess Champion?

Beryl Burton deserves a mention in this thread. She held the cycling 12 hour time trial world record from 1967-1969.

Well thought out and well written.
Thank you. However, when it comes to fantastic essays about chess history - I bow in the presence of my betters.

"Margaret Thatcher, along with Ronald Reagan and John Paul II are deservedly credited with winning the Cold War. Her leadership was key to that accomplishment."
The only folks who would give such "credit" would be those with political axes to grind. Afghanistan isn't known as the graveyard of empires for nothing.

From the guy that said all women players are egomaniacs :)
without being able to counter the statement.

If its dumb, the guys will take it more seriously and master it.
This is one of the more sexist things that have been posted on this thread, at least when it's stated like this.
From the person who said that only male chess players are egomaniacs (in a different thread). I think chess can bring out egomaniacs male or female, although it's just a guess, unlike your disrespectful, unreasonable claim. It's not so different from saying that women are too emotional so they should just forget about joining the army. It's not just a claim; it has unnecessary hostility attatched to it.
But ok, hopefully it was all in good fun. Hopefully.

this thread is quite a interesting read.
It's also an unusual thread that actually contains many thought provoking comments and a worthwhile thread once you cull out the nonsense.

Well, this specific thread didn´t look that unusual. Many threads looked the same last week.
Well thought out and well written.
