why would anyone play for a draw ---- i miss the point -- win a game go up a point lose a game go down a point -- but draw what does it give or take away from you ??? does just maintaining your score worth a draw of the minus points it evades -- can't get a handle around this  any ideas?

Draw, uh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing.

That’s sounds like a great lyric for a song….

In a tournament I am more apt to take take a draw because over 5 rounds, a draw isn’t likely to shoot you in the foot in the first or second round so I save my stamina.

so in tournaments there is reason to draw a game ?

In a 5 round tournament, you wouldn’t sneeze on 4.5 or 4.0 points finish?

If the winner goes 5.0, tip the hat to him.

if you draw against someone rated much higher than you, you ll get points more than winning against someone lower rated than you.thats why.

Playing back to back 94 move games because my higher rated opponents declined my draw offer to conclude with draws by repetition or 50 move rule is horseplay:

they were expecting you to blunder.

At least attempt to make progress if you’re going to decline a draw.

Such a beta move.

Those are bullet matches...of course they will refuse draw. Play classical and they will accept draw (if position is drawish) cause don't want to waste time. In bullet it is normal to play until the last second (expecting your opponent blunder or time out)

If you have 10 seconds left on your clock, there is no reasonable way you're going to win, it is a reasonable choice to try and trick them into a draw by repetition. Or if you're playing somebody nobody would've thought you had a chance against, you might want to just play it safe with a draw if it's tied in the endgame.

If there is no such thing as a draw in chess, the aesthetics of the game will change heavily.

A draw is a fair outcome for both players when the position is roughly equal or in some cases accepting a draw ensures that you remain atop the standings of a tournament.

For example, if you are entering the final round of a tournament with a one point lead against the second-ranked player, but with a poor tie-break score, a draw ensures your first place finish, even if your tie-break score is lower than the second-ranked player.

A draw is to avoid a loss, in my opinion. Play to win, but if you’re getting beaten you can play not to lose (points)

A draw is the outcome of a perfect game of chess.
