Mastering Chess Openings Volumes 1-4, John Watson

No! Don't simply jump into openings at this rating range. Just improve your tactical ability by solving and understanding the puzzles. Once you master basic pattern recognition, you will see improvement in your rating. I wouldn't suggest anyone to focus on openings until they reach 1800-1900 level. But yes! You can learn very common openings and any one of its variations from the videos available on chess.com itself. Don't refer any books now. Just watch and keep playing the same lines again and again until you can play it confidently in bullet games!! Hope it helps you.

He's right. Just take the tour. Maybe just play the first five moves of an opening you like.

I always hear people saying this, but I think knowing some good sharp openings is great for players at all levels. I’d recommend the Vienna.

Well there you go. Play the first ten moves if you really like it.

Yes! Knowing some sharp openings is always good. But, my understanding is that most of the beginners misplay the lines when their opponent runs out of theory and plays some random move. This is where exactly early blunders happen. So, what I feel is, beginners must develop that understanding about the opening through intuition. Once you develop this skill, you can learn any opening.

I think any missteps in the first five moves could be punished.
