What is a good way to play against the Caro Kann? I am rated around 1650 so looking for a fairly simple way to attack against players in the 1600-1800 range. How about the advance variation, and the Spassky gambit? Anybody use that? Advice please, and if possible some links to videos. Thanks

I prefer the Advance Variation, Short style, with 3.Nf3.  Black is comitted to playing c5, and there a limited number of strategal ideas, so that allows the White player to prepare and anticpate with relative simplicity.  The fact that Black is able to develop his White-squared bishop to f5 is a plus, compared to the Advance French, but it is not without peril, since it is subject to attack with tempo, and, in some instances Black is vulnerable on the white squares of his queen side if he/she does not take the proper precautions.

One other point.... Black's king stays in the middle for a while, as he tries to get his pieces out in a logjam.  If Black delays c5 too long, White, in some variations can prepare a c4 reply to c5 where the center suddenly becomes opened with the Black King still on e8.  I have had many successes with this idea, although, realistically, most of the good results come from a Caro Kann player not being ready for early complications.  Many of my "brilliancies" have been soundly refuted by post-mortem engine analysis.

DO NOT BUY SUPERCHARGE YOUR CHESS IN 21DAYS

THIS IS THE WORST COURSE EVER.

    HERE'S WHY:

    WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.

    FALSE INFORMATION.TERRIBLE MASTER GAMES.

    LIMITED TACTICS.

    LACK OF RATING IMPROVEMENT.

    REPEATED EASY ENDGAMES.

BASICALLY IN THIS COURSE YOU GET TO READ THOURGH A LOAD OF FALSE INFORMATION THAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD BUT DOESN'T DO GOOD. THEN YOU STUDY THOUGH A MASTER GAME THAT DROWNS YOU WITH VARIATIONS. YOU DO 5 REALLY HARD TACTICS AND CHECK THEM WITH SOLUTIONS WHICH DONT HAVE EXPLAINATIONS. YOU STUDY ABOUT OPPOSITION FOR EVERY LESSON AT THE END.

RIGHT SO THE COURSE IS $69.

NO PREVIEW AT ALL AND THE GARUNTEE IS A LIE.

BETTER WAYS TO SPEND YOUR MONEY,

BUY CHESS.COM GOLD MEMEBERSHIP, DO TACTICS AND PLAY LOTS OF GAMES

BUY BOBBY FISCHER 60 MEMORABLE GAMES.

BUY SILMANS ENDGAME COURSE/REASSES YOU CHESS.

RIGHT NOW IM READING ABOUT 10 PAGES OF HOW TO REASSES YOUR CHESS. IM DOING ABOUT 10 TACTICS A READING ONE GAME OF BOBBY fiSHER.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A USELESS COURSE. TO BE HONEST I THINK ITS NOT EVEN WORTH $1

*Your title says Caro-Kann, yet the post says "Najdorf". Given that there have already been answers to a Najdorf thread, I will assume you mean Caro-Kann.

At the 1600-1800 range, I believe the simplest way to play against the Caro-Kann, and often get a strong position, is with the following system.

There are other options for black, of course, but white's piece setup and ideas are similar in every single one of them.
Most players at the 1600-1800 level will not be able to play very well against this highly aggressive setup for white, while white plays similar moves each time.
This variation also requires very little study time, which is another bonus.

I personally wouldn't recommend this, as 5...Qc7 gives Black a pretty easy game. That said, the above continuation is definitely easier to play for White.

thanks Blind Maiden I am looking for info on the Caro Kann in this thread so I changed the original post. And that system you showed looks very interesting indeed! I will check it out and maybe post some more about it
