It is really quite easy, both of those words have well established definitions. Chess only qualifies as one of them based on the definition. Hint: it's not "Sport".
What is chess? Game or sport?

I stand by the decision of the International Olympic Committee TheGrobe. I believe they know what they are talking about !. You seem to have a big problem accepting this , and doubtless you will have more to say , but I feel life is too short to justify continuing , as you put it ,with this nonsense , so as I said previously , we will agree to disagree. Glad I've had the opportunity to have my say.

The IOC classifies things as Olympic Sports without regard for whether they are actually sports by the dictionary definition or not. Chess and Bridge most notably.
To be clear, the dictionary definition of Sport unanimously requires that physical exertion be a necessary component. Neither chess nor bridge qualify per this definition. The IOC may be considering them for future Olympic events, but this does not actually make them sports even if they happen to use that word, however incorrectly.

We say, "Olympics games" so that means no sports in Olympics games. Or perhaps as said by ZeeghamShaarih sports=games!!

So far, this view seems to prevail. Grobe and you other guys may continue.

Chess is a game as well as a sport. +#
If chess is a sport, everyone on this site should look really fit and have a six pack.

TheGrobe Writes ...
"Chess is the best game, and about the worst sport (if it even was one). Why are we so keen to devalue it?"
I would argue that Chess is the best Sport !.
Then can Scotland claim ownership of football, please; you are not worthy of it.

Just claiming doesn't work in today's world. Unfortunately, you have to prove it.
It's quite easy really The Grobe ... You say Chess is a game , I say it is a Sport , and it's clear neither of us are gonna change our opinions , so as you say , maybe we should end this nonsense now.
