What is happening?

Hi, new here, never posted anything.
I usually had a nice time playing chess, slowly but surely ranking up (max 1200, not high but not low either, 85th percentile is ok to me)...but in the recent days i'm not understanding what is happening.

I lost about 200 point against people that played WAAAY better than me, to the point where I truly thought that I reached 1200 only because of luck or that there is something going on.

Is that tournament-thingy correlated to the opponents I meet (or viceversa)? Is this torunament known to hosts smurfs/cheater that only want to win that tournament?
Or I am simply having a bad day and I immediately went for an excuse that doesn't exist?

P.S. Before someone asks.
Yes, sometime out of tilt I make idiotic mistakes, happens.
No, I refuse to study opening-theory or instruments like that; I'll try to reach the higher amount I can based only on my personal experience.
And when the opponents can't be beaten trought experience alone, I'll simply stop.

Thank you!

That's funny bcs I have exactly the same "problem", only the other way around, my blitz rating went up by 200 suddenly since yesterday and most of the games I lost were because of poor connection and constant drops, I was seriously outplayed just once from what I can remember and suddenly I feel like people generally play poorly... And I find it hard to believe that I improved like that over night.

I tend to notice that my opponents get much stronger on the weekends. It's probably a 100 pt difference. So all week my rating will climb and then on the weekend it drops.

I have the exact same problem except i m too lazy... A have .pdf which are hundreds n thousands of pages about chess theory but haven t read them. I just dont have the motivation, energy or amount of hope i hope had. I think i should jus read these downloads?

BigChessplayer665

Learn the ideas of openings but not the theory it is actually super helpful for positional play

Btw tilt I recommend getting a good night's sleep or taking a nap it's a really easy way to get out of it

BigChessplayer665

I barely know one main line of each opening lol

And have no PDFs or opening books

Los_Tenyos_Pica

Agreed.

Does someone notice that the game review interface has change? I miss some of the factions that I had yesterday when I was analyzing or review my last game. Did I accidentally change my setting, or did chess.com change it?

Los_Tenyos_Pica

Nope.

Los_Tenyos_Pica

I m playing idk

It’s common for players to go through periods of bad form. Chess is a game of both skill and concentration and off days can significantly impact performance.

This is true, but you have to understand that I reached 1200 completely drunk; and for a week after, the opponents appeared completely unbeatable...
But at this point, I think that maybe being drunk and chill gives better results than being sober but tilted...tilt could have been the problem.
Now, the opponents are back to "normal"...I mean, with all due honesty, as I said, i'm new to chess.com, not to chess in general (that I played against my father and 1800-bots), but I think I'm higher than 1100 if my winrate is 53/5/42 with white (white I'm considerably better, because I played always as white against bots).
Considering I created this account on the 6th of march I think I'm progressing quite fast...
Sorry, I digressed, the point is that "normality" for me are opponents that give me quite trouble but not so much...whatever I faced in that period wasn't normality.
Now there is only to consider if it was the abnormality that justifies my tilt, or the tilt that justify my poor performance.
