What is it with Tactics ?

I go faster than I feel comfortable and I do stupid shit because I am thinking that there is something obscure. I take my time and I get it right and it deduct points. maybe I just suck? I am a strategic planning player and tactics just magically a pear. I know the board and where things are apt to occur. in tactics, I can't study the whole board or I will loose points for taking to long. I know there is something I am missing. I used to not understand pawn structure, and never studied openings, and still have not studied endings. please help.
They don't deduct points when you get it right. They used to do that. A lot of people complained. Now you can take as long as you want. You may not earn many points for a slow right answer but you will at least not lose any.
You have to keep at it. You are not doing badly.
