What is one thing that differentiates Magnus Carlsen from other grand masters?

Magnus Carlsen is world champion. other grand-masters are not.

Magnus sees things quicker and understands things better in all phases of a game.
It's just the same as an A-player vs a B-player.

Magnus is Magnus, all other grandmasters are not Magnus. End of story.

It's like in bullet, Naka is Naka, no other grandmaster is Naka. End of story 2.

Did Carlsen play his Immortal Game yet?

Magnus memorised "houdinis" winning lines in all the openings.

But Magnus plays on, seeking complications, setting up threats. He is narrowing the margin required to hold the draw. Soon his opponent is thinking: why is he still playing – I can hold a draw with any of these three moves. Then: I can hold with this move and with this move. And then: I still have one clear way to hold a draw. And under the strain of constantly having to solve deep and complex problems, more often than not the opponent will crack. Magnus wins not because it was in the position, he wins because he is Magnus."

That sounds more like 2200 vs 1800 who doesn't know any better.

I'm pretty sure pros take the endgame seriously even if it's objectively equal.

Magnus is one of the best grinders I've ever seen, if not THE best. He has an insane will to win, but not to the point that he'll compromise his own position to do so. At least, not usually. I've seen a handful of games that instead of accepting the half point, he overextended and lost because of it. I think that will to win and his Capablanca-like understanding of the game is what separates him from other GMs and super-GMs. He's comfortable in any position and if there are complications to be made, he's not afraid to make them.

Hes obviously Morphys reincarnation.

Hes also why I hate being a natural player , in my opinion he memorised "houdinis" winning lines. probably all of em.

Carlsen memorized Houdinis lines but do not play those lines. That what makes him WC and highest rated player.

Nakamura was asked that in an NYT profile of Magnus (looks for Link on slow internet connection; fails). As I recall, Naka said what Magnus is *very* good at playing away from known opening lines and that's where he eats. I took from it to mean his analysis is just off the charts, particularly in little known positions.
