what is the best chess movie?

My favorite movie with chess in it is Assassins with Sylvester Stalone and Antonio Banderas.  I think I'd probably watch it if they took out the chess scenes though...

I have been looking for this movie for years and I am simply using this forum for your ideas.

There was a movie on a Sat. afternoon in the 70's (so I assume a 'B' movie) where the villian has the hero playing on a mediteranian (sp) veranda or portico with life-size chess pieces with voice activated controllers. It turns into a gunfight, the hero gets both controllers and crushes the villian with quick thinking moves.

Any ideas?

Kasparov - Karpov  NY  2002 , a short film by Szachowy Zapiecek .                   Best chess film ? I don't know ...oddly entertaining . At one point                           I thought Kasparov was going to turn over the table                                        with the Chess board .

Did you all forget Blade Runner, with Harrison Ford? OK, is not about chess but there's an interesting chess game being played by the two guys who were behind the creation of the replicants (if I remember correctly). I enjoyed "searching for bobby fischer" and also liked "kasparov vs. the machine", really interesting documentary about that game he played with Deep Blue from IBM.

Well this movies I'm goin to mention has got some chess scenes in the movie: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, Independence day, x men 3, deathnote 2

All of your suggestions just mention chess and never really expand or even show the entire game. Does anyone know any movie where chess is the central theme?
