what is the lowest rating

what is the lowest rating you can have in chess.com does it go into minus what do you think is 0 the lowest possible?

trysts

The lowest I can recall was about 500. I imagine they can go to zero.

Magnum_of_Carlsberg

A brick would score roughly 0. The only human to score less that this would be Hillary Clinton, were she to attempt to learn the game.

Mainline_Novelty

There was once a guy who tried to get to negatives, but discovered it wasn't possible.

trysts

Hilary would definitely be the type of person to cheat with an engine.

Celsus

If HC cheated with an engine, her rating would probably reach > 0, depending on the engine.

In denmark the lowest otb  rating you can get is 1000.(danish chess union). no player in denmark has a rating lower than 1000 in the union.

would a 0 rating mean you are not even capable of moving pieces on a chessboard (or online)?? maybe it means you are the worst player in the world. There are days when I feel I deserve a 0 rating.

trysts

I played some guy years ago when I was rated probably about 1300 online(but I played him otb), and I beat him two times in a row without my queen. I would call that guy a zero rated playerLaughing

I like to think a 0 rating is possible because it makes me look like a really strong player by comparison HAHAHAHAHA Cool

I was in the library some time ago and I saw this guy setting up  a chess board.  Always on the lookout for otb games , i asked him if he wanted to play. He told me that he was giving chess lessons to a young boy and he was waiting for him. But then he suggested I play the young boy. I agreed and when the boy showed up and we sat down to play, he suggested I give the kid queen odds. He pretty much made me feel like a chump if I didn't. The kid was not a rank beginner but I won anyway. Then we played again and the guy again harangued me into giving the kid queen odds. Again I won but I felt like I was really in a no won situation. If I won , it was because the kid sucked. If I lost,  even without a queen, I would feel like I sucked to lose to a student.

Yes, playing games like that can't make you feel good about your chess playing. But it is fun to do in a more casual setting with adults(and wineWink).

when I was teaching my son and his friends to play, I would deliberately play at or just above their level, so they would have to fight for every victory. It improved their skills quickly. Demolishing them by playing my best would have turned them against chess, probably forever. Instead, my son is the best player in his school, and his friends aren't bad either.

chessgdt

according to others that i know, the lowest otb rating possible is 100
