what is the point of this gambit

This recently happened in my game. The computer called it the Maddigan gambit. 1) d4 Nf6 2)Nc3 e5

The point is to gain quick development and make the center easier to maneuver. Not a great way to play though.

The idea is obvious: Dropping a pawn, and after that, starting looking for compensation.
