The Scandanavian, like the Petroff, is a defence you WILL encouter if you open with e4. This contrasts with, say, the Kings gambit or the Scotch, which only occur when you choose them. Thus there is some point in everyone having a look at the Scandablah but that's not to say everyone likes it. I believe its about as popular with great players as the Alekhine, probably for some reason or another.
