What is your favorite chess quote?

This may have come up earlier and I do not know where the quote comes from. When explaining the difference between an IM and a GM, it was said that an IM has the skill to confidently win a won position. On the other hand, a GM can not only win a won position, but convert a drawn position into a win and convert a lost position into a draw.

that is a bit esoteric and a play on words. Yeah i remember a game of my teacher, where he had a totally winning position against a GM and then blundered into a draw. I dont know if you necessarily can call that a skill, but i think i get what you mean....
but that being said you are obviously right, sometimes its phenomenal with what people can come with to save a game.

"Invinted a new opining, how do I get it named after me?"
Yeah, that unforgettable thread... A classic.

Spassky was asked by an interviewer: "Which do you prefer... Chess or Sex?"
He replied: "It depends on the position."
Oh that's naughty xD

"When I play white, I win because I am white. When I play black, I win because I am Bugolyubov!" I love the way the chess master conveys his confidence!
Also, "Simplify, always simplify!" Sorry I don't have the chess master who said this--although I'm guessing it was Capablanca!
Simplify meaning what exactly, and why?

Visualize where you want your pieces to be. Then put them there.
I forget who...
I heard someone say this at chess club! Nice :)

"Maybe I'm just the stronger/more talented player!" Karpov to his coach Roshal (after Roshal lost every blitz game to Karpov - no matter if he had better positions or not).

i invented a opening! - every patzer ever
Haha! That's really funny because someone said that to me recently!! ;p

"I often use the analogy of a chess game: one can learn all the rules of chess, but one doesn’t know how to play well. The present situation in physics is as if we know chess, but we don’t know one or two rules. But in this part of the board where things are operation, those one or two rules are not operating much and we can get along pretty well without understanding those rules. That’s the way it is, I would say, regarding the phenomena of life, consciousness and so forth."

Probably the worst chess quote ever
Why? It's pretty good.
"The boy (then a 12-year-old named Anatoly Karpov) doesn't have a clue about chess, and there's no future at all for him in this profession." - Mikhail Botvinnik
The future of chess lies in the hands of this young man. - (On Kasparov at age 11) - Mikhail Botvinnik
I guess sometimes you hit, sometimes you dont.
Maybe just Botvinnik had no clue ... about who is talented and who isn't!
