I like this one a lot, as I've come to the same realization recently in the course of my studies and training.

I have just dug this one up. I don't think it has been mentioned yet:

"There must have been a time when men were demigods - or they could not have invented chess."

G. Schenk

Here's a good one:

"Chess is as much a mystery as women." - Purdy

hm dont think he was the life and soul of the party Botvinnik. 'Pawns are the soul of chess' Philidor.

arent man still demigods?

This one is really new... It was just published in the Book of Successful Achievements awhile ago.

"Behind the King's Success is a Queen and Eight Potential Royal Mistresses."

I absolutely love this one. You know how dry and boring game annotations can be. Here is one of Marco's comments on a tournament game:

"Black's position is perfectly balanced. It is weak on the kingside and equally so on the queenside"

StampNut

Another annotation, this time by Tarrasch on a WC match:

"Up to this point White has been following well-known analysis, but now he makes a fatal error - he begins to use his own head."

Ha-ha. Priceless.
