We all know chess.com has a way to analyze your game,

The bot analyzes your game and rates your move as from the worst being a Blunder ?? to a

Brilliant !! move,

But what type of move should be considered, "Brilliant"

Is it sacrificing your pieces for checkmate?

Is it moving a piece or capturing a piece?
Who knows, But now or days chess.com is having, well, BUGS,

Giving playes random moves considered as, "BRILLIANT"

For absoulutely NO REASON.

So why do these moves get the amazing title to be called a "Brilliant Move"

Why?
You can all discuss your opinions on what moves or type of moves should be called "Brilliant"
Or how ANNOYING
it is for random people to get Brilliant Moves for absolutely NO REASON at all, and then they procceed to FLEX on you on how "sMarT tHey aRe" 🤓 Or you can post your games where you got BRILLIANT move and etc. etc.

Enjoy I guess, And have fun wink.png

If a move sacrifices material or allows material to be captured and is good or best, it may be classified as brilliant. Whether or not that happens will depend on ratings.
I know there are some cases where things like forced moves that allow captures are flagged as brilliant and there is a ticket in to modify that behavior as I understand it.

A good sacrifice of a piece on purpose, but not a sacrificed piece when it is trapped; except desperado. It could be sacrificing a knight for counter play or for an attack, sacrificing queen for checkmate, etc. It also can be given for draws, like crazy rook, sacrificing the rook several times but it cannot be taken due to a stalemate. A sacrifced piece to draw because of perpetual check, or a perpetual attack; (when a piece is trapped except for one square and you keep attacking it so it has to repeat) should be given a brilliant move, if it is one of the better moves chosen by the game review engine.

A true brilliant move satisfies four criteria

  1. It is winning. Losing or drawing moves are not brilliant.
  2. It is unique. When two moves win, then none is brilliant.
  3. It involves a sacrifice: that is aesthetically pleasing.
  4. It is a quiet move, no check (+) or capture (x), as those are too obvious to be brilliant.

You are so wrong broskie. For #1, if you are losing, a sacrifice that turns the game into a draw would be brilliant (provided it's the only drawing move). For #2, moves are still brilliant even when leading to checkmate in 2. And for #4, many captures and checks can be brilliant. For example, a rook taking a bishop, or a Queen sacrificing itself while checking the king. If you're gonna teach someone something make sure you know what you're talking about lmao

@tygxc is making posting a definition that some believe should be the criteria for a brilliancy. It's not what everyone might agree to and certainly not what the site is using.

The title reads: 'What move should be considered as, "Brilliant"?',
not 'What move does chess.com consider as brilliant?'

Let us take the Greek gift sacrifice Bd3xh7+ as an example.
It satisfies criteria #1, #2, and #3, but does not meet criterium #4, and thus should not be considered as brilliant, as it is too obvious.
It is something we routinely do in blitz games and it is something we routinely look out to prevent in blitz games. Not brilliant at all.
