wow. wow. that beginner's opening of march on ahead to the 7th rank quickly became dangerous and started to look better than any of the other openings - in its attractiveness and brash activeness.
Good innovation. Just don't encourage this to beginners =)
I find a lot of posts by new chess players asking what openings they should play so I wanted to give my 2 cents on the matter.
I think that first of all openings should not be memorized, but as you play games you should become aware through repetition what works and what doesn't on your own. I believe that new players should adhere to basic opening principles of development, center control, and castling when playing any opening or playing against any opening.
With that said: once you get to the point where you are familiar with different openings, I believe it is highly important (if you wish to learn how to make a plan and be creative) to completly try anything in the opening. Even go as far as putting yourself in an positional box to practice getting out of the box. Create challenges for yourself as practice. Online chess is a great place to do this.
Here is an example of what I mean by healthy practice using no opening system and putting myself in a box.
1. e4Remeber this is practice. He is opening with e4 a very flexible move which makes space for the bishop and queen to be developed. Normally I would respond in kind with e5. 1... a6 Believe it or not this move actually has an opening attached to it called the St. George Defense, but that is not what I'm going to play. My plan is to move every one of my pawns to the 6th rank without hurting my winning chances.
2. d4 Great move. Controlling the center and helps the development of the dark squared bishop. 2... b6 3. c4 Another fine move...Taking even more center control.
3... c6 Remember just practice. Don't play moves like this until you can understand threats.
4. Nc3 e6 Move order is still important as I cannot let him push his d pawn without a fight. Remember I'm still going for the win, just want to force myself to be creative.
5. Bd3 He is playing smart. Not getting wrapped into my silly play. He is developing his army and controling the center. 5... g6 Sticking with my original plan to move my pawns to the 6 rank before developing.
6. Bf4 d6
7. Nf3 f6 Who would you rather be? I'd rather be white myself. Time to start playing.
8. O-O e5 I couldn't allow for a push with his center pawns by wasting another move. I had to start thinking creatively about my position and how to salvage it.
9. dxe5 Forced 9... dxe5
10. Be3 Bg4 Creates a pin which I see he will easily break with Be2. The fact his is so ahead in development means it will be better for him to trade queens than it will be for me.
11. Be2 Nd7 I don't want the trade.
12. a3 Be7
13. b4 f5 Opens up a nice square for my knight and also will help support center control.
14. exf5 Bxf5
15. Qd2 Here he becomes focused on the knight pin on my queen. and how to win material. 15... Ngf6 I'm feeling better about my position already. 16. Rad1 We all saw this coming. I think the move is fine...although I think some sort of queenside pawn strom might have served him better than this. 16... a5 17. Nh4 Looking to remove a defender of that knight. However, misses that I win a pawn here.
17... axb4
18. axb4 Bxb4 Nice pin and strong square for my bishop.
19. Nxf5 gxf5 I'm happy to open a line for my rook on the G file. There is no threat on my king and he is in the center of the board.
20. Qd3 He doesn't have a plan. He is out of his game trying to figure out how to break through the center. 20... e4
21. Qd4 Rg8 Obviously I want my rook in an attack on the king.
22. Rb1 Again. No real threat. 22... c5 23. Qd2 Pinned again. So I gained 3 tempos.
23... Qb8 The idea here is to hit the h2 square to put more pressure on the kingside.
24. Qc1 Just has to release that pin. 24... Bxc3 I don't want that knight having control of b5 or d5. Good trade down for me. 25. Qxc3 Forced 25... f4 All my pieces are working together.
26. Bd2 Ra2 Can you figure out this move? I want to push the f pawn, but the queen on the c file has to move. I'm thinking about taking the bishop on d2 to move the queen back to the 2nd rank, so I can make the f pawn push worth it.
27. Rb2 Didn't expect this...But helps me with my plan on moving the queen back to the 2nd rank 27... f3 28. Rxa2 ?? Did not expect him to take as he misses mate. I thought he would move g3 and lose the bishop, then play Re1 and then I would play Rxb2 and be up a piece.
28... Rxg2+ Resigns with mate on h2 next move.
