I go to church every Sunday, too, though not religiously. I just run past it on my running route. I can find a million better things to do than going inside.

Strange, that, isn't it? God the almighty never picking up a phone or getting a Facebook account? You would have thought he would adapt with the times.

If I created the universe fashion wouldn't exist.

Boring waste of time.

For my hobbies: chess, programing, computer games, Magic the Gathering.

Well, in a world like this, I guess my interest would be watching all the nakid ladies. Laughing

i like fashion, kpop and dating.

LOL - Yep, Fashion. Way more engaging than philosophy.

Philosophy: Why are we? Is there a purpose in existing? Are morals and ethics innate, absolute, or just society norms?

Fashion: What's the hot color this spring?

Those are stupid questions that has no meaning. Their answer is known for more than thousands of years. While fashion is ever changing and every year we have new trends and colors.

And phrases like "Green is the new brown!".

Fashion is a legit interest???? Sure if one is shallow. Oh yeah, you made the point that the big questions are a waste of time. I guess this really is the age of reality TV. Wondering what Brittany Spears will wear next is considered deep thinking.

They are only 'big' because you've been trained to believe they are. The fact is, most people in the world DON'T think about these things. Not because of thing like reality TV (This only explains why Americans and Europeans might not consider these questions 'big'.). But because it is not normal for humans to think of this stuff.

So you do not care about logic (a branch of philosophy ), you do not care to know why the world is the way it is, you do not care about understanding yourself (what is consciousness ).... You only care anbout Brittany's britches. I prefer a deeper and more profound life.

Looks like her britches are pretty deep to me.

fischerman_bob

How do you know they have no meaning? You must be a pragmatist, a philosopher! In other words you think that we can know nothing about reality. We can only know how to use it. That is a philosophical position.

fischerman_bob

So your argument is that because most people dont care about what they are and the nature of reality, that curiosity is stupid?

Again, cultural training. NOT reality.

Westerners think too much about life. They spend too much precious energy trying to 'understand' life rather than accepting and enjoying it.

I used to think like you. But after spending 10 years outside Western culture, I began to see this thinking about something that is not going to produce many, if any, answers that are truly useful for being happy.

It's so bad, I often think of it as one of the many diseases plaguing Western societies today.

Anyway, back to more happy thoughts.
