So, positive psychology in general has its limits. I don't want to get into them here.
But I've found that having a few things to say to myself helps me at least have a better chance to stay in the fight and laugh a bit. Especially if my opponent makes a small inaccuracy.
In particular, some of the more colorful phrases in this video help me.
Keeping the damage down: "Dad gummit, Jeff Whitley, way to get rid of the football, beh-beh!"
After an inaccuracy: "We just woke up Earl 'The Cookie Man' Miller!"
And if I win material back: "Break out the Oreos, beh-beh!"
