What side do you like to put the chess clock?

the placement of the clock is a big problem if you sit to close to the other players.

I was at a tournament and one player kept hitting my clock instead of his own. his clock was on the other site but it was more natural for him to hit the clock on the side I was sitting.

it was very annoying. people shouldn't have to sit that close anyway.

this isn't fun if people have to sit close like laying hens.

but some tournaments treat people below 1800 like garbage.

If you have been lucky enough to be able to go to a tournament, meet new people, make new friends, catch up with old friends, play a great game, see some site, and learn.  Thats a pretty small price to pay to have to "sit close to someone"  And i dont see how that being treated like "garbage"

well I could live with it if everyone was on equal terms. but usually if you are the highest rated at the tournaments you get the nicer boards and more space and so on.

and we pay the same to enter the tournaments.

at one tournament we were playing at a school and there was no empty space in a classroom so we were sitting in the hallway with people passing by. we might as well have been sitting in a trainstation.

I have played in some tournaments with less than ideal conditions, but for me i just want to play.

Diakonia I should mention I was addicted to playing chess 3 years ago and played almost in a tournament at least 3 times a week.

I didn't care how the room or equipment was I just wanted to play chess but as soon as the addiction to chess was gone I could no longer see the joy of going to a tournament.

I gotcha...I can relate.  I have reached the point of my chess career where i just want to play.  I no longer care about the rating, where i finish, or how i do.  What i look forward to is seeing old friends, meeting new people, seeing new places, revisting old places, and making new friends.  this is why, now, i dont really care about the conditions.  I just want to play a great game.

Always on the left. Keeps the right hand moving in the same direction after stealing my opponent's favorite horse.

I'm left handed too, but somehow it is far better for me to have the clock on the right
