what to do after the opening moves (beginner player here)

I have recommended Chernev’s books to beginners for many years. His Logical Chess Move by Move and The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played are great teaching books that show how masters think.
tere are many such books out there. I also have recommended Fone’s Lessons From My Games and The Ideas Behind the Chess Openings.
as an exercise for beginners, I have had students do the following. Look at a master game. After both players have castled, try to analyze the position. What are the weaknesses, open lines, etc. Can you predict some plans for both sides? Then play through the rest of the game to see what happened.
if this is too difficult, another thing to do is to watch commentary on tournament games. The commentators analyze the position as the game proceeds, so they are anticipating/explaining the plans.
goid luck.

I have been playing at chess.com for a long time. I like old threads. Different ideas about chess from different folks are good to read. It's not really about the closed account. It is about those of us with open accounts that like to interact with others and share ideas. Have a great day today all. I need to get back to my chess games.
