that is their choice to say that about Draw.     there is no "mercy rule" in chess, as there may be in some baseball leagues, etc.  that when the score gets out of hand, the match ends.

If you want to get the game over with quickly, just Queen your pawn and mate him/her.

If you want to "teach them a lesson", then take a long time before u mate them.

You think you are teaching a lesson. Your opponent just doesn't care. Why would they? If they didn't feel like playing on in a lost position, they'd just resign.

But at least you achieved to demonstrate your passive-aggressive mindset.

No tricky stalemate in sight. Absolutely a resign case here. ..

All you’ve probably done is guarantee the guy will play on for longer than he otherwise would have done. Completely pointless.

You say nothing to them. Just play the game. Prolonging the game to "teach them a lesson" is childish and only teaches them that they have better chances for a stalemate if they fight on. If you want to teach them a lesson you should beat them as quickly as possible so they learn why not to play on in such positions.

I dont get it. U instigated a conversation in a game and ur the one complaining now?

That's a new one.

Well the reason they are complaining is because of the opponent not resigning in an obviously lost position. Who instigated the converstation is not relevant

There is nothing appropriate to say.  Your opponent has every right to continue.  I agree frustrating perhaps but promote the pawn and make it a quick win.

Update: He or she resigned after this and offered a rematch which I immediately declined.

That's really extremely interesting.

That happens all the time. Are u saying his opponent has to resign whenever he wants him to? it's a ridiculous argument.

No I am just saying that just because the OP was the one to instigate the conversation doesn't mean that he cannot complain.

Edit; I also dont mind it when my opponent does not resign even in completely lost positions.

I don't get it. you are winning a game you agreed to play, what's the problem?

Avatar of You_play_well

Ur argument makes no sense.

People have the right to do just about anything. That's not relevant to this topic. He's complaining about people who don't resign in lost positions, and i'm saying it's a ridiculous post.

I am not arguing that you should or should not resign, I just disagree with this post of yours

"I dont get it. U instigated a conversation in a game and ur the one complaining now? "

The OP instigating the a conversation has nothing to do with the actual topic (whether people should resign in lost positions or not)
