Vague impressions like that are hard to interpret. My guess is that you have at least some of the same problems as other 1200-1300-rated players (moving the same unit twice in the opening, misplaced units, not knowing the plans behind the openings, etc.), so I think you should post a typical game, either in this thread or in the Game Analysis forum on this site.

First time on the forums or really talking to anyone about chess. I can beat the play magnus app age 9 pretty consistently. It takes a great amount of effort and I am pretty tired by the end of the game.
I've studied basic openings, some tactics, patterns, and then did a few hundred 1-3 move checkmates.
When I play I can feel myself essentially protect and setup 1-2 pieces at a time. What I mean is that if I want to be sneaky I can place a couple of pieces in place that allows me to make my big move with protection and such.
What I noticed about magnus at 9+ years old is that it feel more like a symphony. That his entire army is moving in harmony. Whereas I can only move parts of my army in harmony.
What should I study next to really get to the next level to be able to do more of that?
