What was my opponent trying to do?

I’m on mobile so I can’t post the game (or if I can, I don’t know how to), but I played an opponent twice in a row (my last two games) and both times he tried the exact same plan of attack. After he made a center pawn move, he got his bishop to the center of the board, then followed it up with moving his queen to the a file (or h file if I’m black), putting major pressure on that c pawn (or f pawn if I’m black). And since it’s the king side, I only had the king as a defender of that pawn. So I had to move the queen and make some wing pawn moves to counter the attack and it completely messed up my development because literally on move 2, I had to constantly defend. It stressed me out honestly. Both times I ended up beating my opponent, but the whole game was really stressful because I was constantly on the defensive. I know strategically what he was doing, but is there a name for that type of attack? And is there a better way to defend against it than what I did? I feel like it was a pet setup that he always does because he played it both times, trying to force a quick mate.

Side note, that endgame in our first game was the craziest endgame I’ve ever had. To you guys it was probably standard, but I’ve never had an endgame like that before. That was epic. That game was dead even, I couldn’t have won by a closer margin. I think he was really mad that I won because on our second game I beat him much easier. I think he played more emotionally that time.

But yeah, what he tried to do during that opening was very difficult for me to deal with, and like I said, it completely messed up my development since I had to jump on the defensive immediately. I want to know what that is and how to better defend against it so I’m more prepared for it if it happens again.
