Stubbornness.  If he would've gave up playing into the Berlin endgame against Kramnik he quite possibly would've never lost a WC match, but he refused to admit that there might be a nut that even GK himself couldn't crack.

Defending a bad opening position. That's why he worked so hard to not get them.

Not that he was bad at endgames, but a player of his strength would typically be thought of as an endgame virtuoso. Fischer was one of the best of all time, and the only reason Karpov won as many games as he did was because he would get into endgames where Kasparov clearly didn't know how to play as well as he did. Kind of like what was said earlier with the Berlin.
