What would be the average rating for a 13 year old

TheRealPhoenix

Im talking about the 13 year olds who have about an hour to study on chess

bangalore2

Then the 1600 figure is accurate from what I've seen.

There is no minimum rating. You can win a FM title at some international tourney even if your rating is 100

I think you have to reach a 2300 rating at some point for it to be ratified though and your norm/norms have to be within 3 years of that grade. You also need to apply. A friend of mine recentyly became an FM for results he got back in 1992.

Yeah, online ratings seem a bit inflated to me. There's no possible way that I'm "really" a 2160 player, for instance.

I'm 2000 and my online rating is 2000 too.

100 Elo rating points per years old to be considered a talent. So, 1300 for a 13 year old. 1800 for an 18 year old. 2400 for a 24 year old....if you're trying to make a name for yourself in chess.

Fischer won his title at 29 (?) with a 2800 rating. Monster is waaaayyyy ahead of his time with 2800++ at age 23 (?)....

If you can progress like this, by age 28 you may be our next World Champion !....Think balloons, confetti, accolades, and how proud your mom and dad will be !

p.s. Try to get to 1300 before your 14th Birthday....You can do it !........

So since I am 13 years and 9 months and about 1700, then I am going to be plowing through the chess world before I'm 20? Yeah, doubt it.

You have the talents, but do you have the time? And the determination?

If you decide to become a Gm, then its only to do the job, but the job is huge, maybe ten years of five hours chess every day. Use personl trainers, play tournaments often, and all over the world.

Just remember "I'm about 1700" means "I wish I were 1700 but I'm rated 1500" or "in my best result I beat a 1700" or "I had a performance rating of 1700."

But yeah, he's young and not terrible so he has a chance.

I've only played 18 USCF rated games and am provisional at around 1580. I have, however, beaten 2000 players in OTB blitz matches and beaten Masters in simuls, so I'm pretty sure that ~1700 is a good estimate.

Zigwurst

I also beat an FM in correspondence one time.

Zigwurst is quite a talent i believe

lol. Dont worry about your current rating, worry about your future rating and try to reach your goals. When I was 13 I was rated around 1100, now look at my rating 3 years later. When you are really motivated and interested in improving you will start studying very hard, as long as you reach your goals.

Zigwurst

I am going to play at least 9 more USCF rated games this month and achieve an unprovisional (established) rating. We'll see then.

I'm playing in a U1800 tournament on Saturday and a U1500 tournament the next weekend. (G/30 d5 and 40/110 SD/30 d10, respectively)

My daughter is 4 y.o. and she can set up the board.... But that is all. She proceeds to illegally move pieces around and hit the clock button out of turn.

I tried to explain to her that Capablanca could play chess at 4 y.o. and she needs to improve dramatically if she wants to keep living under my roof.

This would be me as a parent haha

Tactics, tactics, tactics, model mating patterns (I can give you some examples, if you like), tactics, endgames, opening principles (NOT opening variations), tactics, pawn structures (and how they affect the choice of middle-game plans), tactics, how to choose candidate moves to analyze, old Master games from past centuries, and tactics.

vonname

im going to enjoy stomping your brains out

bangalore2

IM can also be offered as a prize in tourneys, or atleast a performance-regardless norm. Say, you win, but dont have a norm worthy performance, they can still give you the norm/title, as long as FIDE sanctions it.

Here is the equation for getting your ideal rating from your age:

(Age x 40) + (300 x amount of z's, j's, or v's in your last name) + (amount of hours studied x 0.5)

enjoy

(18x40)+(300x0)+(60*x0.5)=750

well, I guess I'll be a patzer forever then :(

*very rough approximation, as I've recently started seriously studying chess, despite having played since I was 11.

also, how does the "amount of z's, j's, or v's in your last name" work if your name is Chinese?

blueemu

According to the formula, I should break 3600 ELO by the time I'm 90.

Must... study... harder...

I believe that the ideal rating for any age is as high as possible.

TheRealPhoenix

I would really appreciate some examples blue emu .And for some reason i dont like studying opening variations.I have no idea what is pawn structure though.Do you think studying Grecos games would be good
