What's a good rating range to play as an advanced beginner?

100 might be hard to get a game.  200 seems reasonable.  I'll get lit up by someone 400 pts higher and conversely, a 600 is not going to win too many games against me unless I blunder something badly (admittedly happens more than it should).  I kind of wish picking a range of 300 was an option because I can occasional stretch and play competitively at 1200 - 1300.

Just play the game whatever rating you are represents your skill level

That. . wasn't my question.  

You choose a range in your settings to get paired with.  The question is what's an appropriate range to select.  Too broad and the games aren't competitive.  Too narrow and it's hard to pair and you don't get to stretch yourself.
