Btw Magnus Carlsons IQ is 190

Carlsen has said that he's never taken an official IQ test, nor does he care to.

In my own personal opinion, IQ scores are mostlly irrelevant.

Nowadays, there are other ways to assess scholarly aptitude (which is essentially what IQ tests were designed for), especially now that we understand neurodivergence better ...

I work in the education system, and nobody that I know of considers IQ testing alone to be a reliable measure of anything ... Perhaps there are some individuals who still believe in its sole merit, but I don't know of them, personally.

These days, cognitive assessments are more likely to be combined with (or part of) behavioral assessments, and the analyses and recommendations that come out of it are dependent on the individual, rather than weighted against a standardized metric ...

I’ve worked in education since the mid-1980s. In higher education, no one considers IQ measures of any value. At lower levels, where teachers and administrators are less well-educated, some do.

The average IQ is 100, so the IQ of the average chess player is close to that. As chess has the reputation of being an intellectual game it likely has greater appeal to those with higher intelligence, so I'd guess around 110.

Chess also has an appeal to those that want to be perceived as smarter, so that might lower the score closer to average.

When one takes into account that the average chess player on chessdotcom is well below average, this must be considered a possibility.
If @mpaetz is correct, however, I would think that 105 would be a better estimate.

Chess, like any hobby, doesn't need to be based on intelligence. The more drive/ambition you have to improve upon something in your life is what determines growth. A monkey could play a guitar if it wanted to, but I don't think they are interested in learning the chords.

IQ does not mean you are intelligent, but it can.

Having intelligence doesn't mean you make good choices. Wisdom comes from learning from bad choices.

The title of this was IQ of players, plus, regular chess better than chess960 to be honest

My friend took this Inaccurate Chess test, it said he was advanced 1, thats wrong, I'm lower than advanced one and I've beaten him, he said the test only had one game against a bot, and a few puzzles

IQ doesn't determine anything

Avatar of Alexeivich94

My iq is 194 so that should raise the average for chess players to atleast about 85 (the rest aren't that smart actually)

I am sorry, but I find that very hard to believe
