What's the fun in centaur chess? I really don't understand

I never tried it, but I find it very appealing. You can focus on strategical thinking while the engine makes sure that your play is tactically sound.

Can you tell us what it is first?

I'm doing it right now.

Watching the computers play without own envolvement does not really attach you to the game and to understand.

But since it kinda is your result aswell, you try and find out why a move suggested by the computer is good.

For example: I would castle but the comp wants to play a4, which I wouldn't even have considered. It thinks it's slightly better than catling. So my job is to try and find out why. And I did. It prevents a possible nasty move of the enemy and since there's no immediate-danger to the king, I think I'll go for it.

So the reason, for a lowly 1200 as me, could also be: learning from a real-master-level-player.

You could try it for free in some sites.

You will see what happens if you only follow the computer first suggestion all the time.

I did and so far my engine rates its position as +1.24 without any material exchanged yet.
But my opponent play Centaur for the 1st time aswell. I think he tried some opening shenanigans which now turn out to have just made his position worse.

If you

a) make the game unrated and
b) give it a name that clearly reflects that

that's what I was told at least. :o

is possible to play centaur in chess.com? its interesting

While it´s possible, I wouldn´t recommend it. I have read that they anyway send you an "automated warning" for cheating, even if you tell to the staff in advance. Then They´ll tell you that you can ignore the warning, but it could still be uncomfortable.
