What's the point of playing chess?

I was wondering if there is something good that comes from playing chess, but it's not easy to think of many. I guess the main one is that it makes some money for a few people.

So presumably you made some money from your 11,000 chess games on here?

Nothing good, just a waste of time.

God forbid somebody plays a game just because they find it fun or interesting. If it doesn't make someone money it's not worth your time I guess.

The main benefit is that it makes you less productive. Balance it with another time waster like fishing for an ethically unproductive life.

What's the point of sleeping with beautiful women? You're just going to want to do it again and again.

What's the point of doing anything?

I've even "slept" with ugly women and got enjoyment. They actually were better lovers than prettier women in some cases because they knew I would eventually dump them for somebody different.

Having a bass hit a topwater lure is almost orgasmic!

Chess doesn't hurt anyone, contributes little to global warming, and it shows what analytical skills people are capable of. If you think you should have other hobbies, or work 24/7, by all means go ahead.

Indeed. Hand-tied fly even better.

I mean you can entertain yourself, chess is just a videogame now

Killing time, pretending you are doing some thing meaning full which is intact as useless as watching a glass of water evaporate
