your two pieces or a queen down your position sucks. why do you keep playing is it a sadistic thing? hoping i lose my internet connection or time out? grow up click resign and start a game.

Most people try to ply until you do a blunder or you time out... i know it is very frustrating. That's why i am Premium and i am under 400.

They want to see if they can still win. People who are competitive do whatever it takes to win. If you lost because of time, then play faster, don’t complain (not saying this to offend anyone) if you lost adjust what went wrong, cause in the end if you lose its your fault. I know that I can’t say anything considering my rank, but that’s my opinion.

i used to bitch about the same thing...then, i realized it is their 5 minutes to so as they please. (if were talking blitz here) if someone is down as much material as you say and holds such a poor position, you should not lose. if you do...keep practicing. i treat this app as just that. practice. i get as many games in as i can...everyday.

Obviously there is a point at which the game is hopeless and one should resign....  However, playing on in a losing game is important practice for improving.   Just my two cents.

mostly i have been playing 1 day 3 day 5 day whatever their challenge is in my rating area. i can also understand in a 3 min 5 min or even 10 minute game yes it is their time to use and could get a stalemate. but in the positions i have been in someone would have to blunder more than once. guess i shall seek to find a way to kill em off quicker. so bored with one game just gave a queen back and still had a winning position.

In blitz or bullet it is ok to try to win by time and flag the oponent. That is the nature of short games. But to play totaly lost postions in daily  chess - disgusting.

excuse*

Hah? Okay, i know that i am very bad at blitz (it's difficult for me to play a good move in limited time), but i don't think that's an "excuse" since i have lost games because of the above reason.

Okay, to say the truth, as i know that was my first post in the forums so i believed it was embarassing being a premium player with 378 rating. My problem is that i blunder easily or i don't have good perception (winning by 12 points and my opponent mates me) under time attack.

And now you will ask me why i bought premium if i am very bad? Simply, to become better.

Nevertheless, i can already beat all of my family members and my father says that "I am ready for a chess tournament", but my rating says otherwise (378).

I would like to not continue this conversation because it will end up in drama.

look at your rating!

similar to mine, so, what i write should be a good answer to your question.

people at our level regularly screw up. i see no worry in playing on if you are sure you have the game in hand. in fact, when you know you will win, it's easy to go to the daily games and move.

so, what's the beef?

Winning a “won game” is one of the challenges.
Just because you are ahead in material is no reason for me to resign.

First of all, hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I believe that it is a good practice to play on, especially on my level.

I see that you are a bit higher than me in rapid, but not by much, so it is probably the same for you and your opponents. For instance, I was very bad in one of my games after losing a pawn. Opponent continued to punish my blunders, but in the end he hanged his queen. After that my position was somewhat better than his, as he was up 2 pawns and I was up a bishop.

And after all that, he just resigned immediately. Maybe he could even win the position but still he resigned a game. If he didn't, we would have both benefited from the endgame experience.

In the other game, I was down 2 minor pieces because I couldn't stop passed pawn so I took it with a rook. I decided to play on vs bishop and knight endgame. There were couple more less drastic examples. There was only 1 game I resigned, if I am not mistaken, and that was because I needed to leave the house.

In my opinion, there are too many early resigns here. Many opponents I face, they lose a bishop in the early game and resign immediately. Why? I am no grand master. Not including playing chess in elementary school, I am a newcomer who didn't play more than 10 games in 20 something years.

I played a game yesterday as Black that I really should have won. Stockfish had me at -11.25 or so, with a mate in under five moves.

And somehow I managed to blunder both the mate and my queen.

Don't resign in a lost position, folks. If your opponent does something very very dumb... you're still in it.

This looks very familiar to another recent post. From Galaxy Quest, "Never give up, never surrender!" At our lower levels, prove to me you can win without making your own blunders.

At higher levels, of course, you wouldn't expect to see this and a resignation would have occurred much sooner . . .

I agree that lingering at the end can be a frustrating thing to waste a players time.  But there are many other reasons to not just surrender. To I noted have been mention, try to get a time out or blunder from your opponent..  You can learn a lot and train as well by just being polite.  if you are badly beaten, or highly outranked, most of these great players will respond to kindness like "I know I am defeated, but I was wanting to see how if I could get you to blunder, as well as see you endgame tactics you use to kill me.  I will happily resign if you feel there is nothing to be learned or do not wish to teach me a few things; thank you.".  Courtesy goes a long way.

How come       NOBODY        EVER     says GG or "good game" after game???  To me it just seems like common sense.  I would estimate 1 in 100 games or so.  Literally.

You have no right to complain when an opponent keeps playing while you think that you most likely won.

They may simply play to later analyze the game and see whether the moves they made were correct, even if the game is lost.

They could also be hoping to get a stalemate.

Whatever it is, you have no right to complain and anyone complaining about thus is unethical.

when you lost do yourself a favor start a new game and try to do better

Avatar of m_connors

Why not resign? See what can happen if you do not. Don’t tell me you have won - Show me you can win! To be sure, not a pretty game but by move 81 White is in control. Would you resign? How do you think this ends?

If you checkmate them, you win. If not, their attitude was proven correct. Nothing to complain about.

It is for your opponent to make decisions for themselves for no matter what reason. It's none of your business. Your job is to control your own pieces. Moaning that your opponent doesn't resign when you think they should is like moaning that your opponent opens e4 when you would prefer them to open d4. Get over it.
