I want to be an IM with so much knowledge and experience to share with my students.
What's your chess goal? 🎉

Have a long term goal but more importantly have short term goals with some plans to help you get there. My long term goal is to become a strong club player. My short term goal is to reach 1200.

I haven't set a goal yet, but I think I'll do it now.
Before 2023, I'd like to reach 2000 in rapid and blitz.

Chess is like wine, it can get better given time.
Modest chess goals:
- top 3300 in puzzles,
- return to 2200 in rapid and blitz,
- increase my chess knowledge.

LOL

Or do you just play for fun, with no real desire to improve? 🏅
Everybody wants to improve, but claiming people who dont' improve are simply not trying enough, sure creates alot of future mass shooters. When I heard Gothamchess make a video saying similar things earlier today, I cringed and felt queasy because its such an ignorant and dangerous thing to say to people. Especially for someone who makes a living off this game.
I would love to get over 800, but i'm definitely not going to burn myself out anymore over false expectations.
I get a slice of that.
My training partners are 1700-2300 since we all started but I had different priorities from the get go. I chose a work/life balance, guitars, rock and roll then booze and any given night, I can win the tournament as the dark horse (and have won because I know their in and outs).
Its just chess.I could care less about a 1700 online number beside my name if I passionately wanted it quicker, I could of manipulate it very quickly and easily?

Or you just have limited God given abilities compared to them and don't want to admit that. There are 8 year olds who pick up the game and in 2 years are their rating. Everyone is different and like you said its just chess. But to act as if you worked harder you would assuredly be the same rating as them might be a false expectation you are giving people. At least you found a way to mentally deal with it and convince yourself otherwise.
This is the same mentality that leads to cheating by stacking teams or undermining match maker systems. A false sense of entitlement where you see the kids online nowadays say "git gud" as they stomp some noobs and ragequit them out of the game with a twisted definition of what is competitive. Its Leads to a a blaming the victim mentality. Saying its their own fault, they did not practice hard enough. It all leads to an unpopular game that is not respected by general society. In the case of online video games its because we have not evovled enough yet to apply the same principles to online we have in the physical world, but when it comes to chess its about outdated traditions rooted in a selfish desire to keep the sport unpopular so many can satisfy their egos and superiority complexes and feel more special for playing it.
The average rating on this site is only 800 and most players are rating 600. Rarely do we even see accounts on this 15 year old site that are more then a year or two old. I think alot of people on these forums are out of touch with reality.
I think it was GM Finegold who said a 700 rated player on this site can probably beat everyone they know in the street.
Honestly, why the rush?
I have 368 rapid games overall in the year and half but majority of that are within 3 months (100 games) from peer pressure because most of my friends at 3500+. That’s crazy!
Do you really want to grind the summer away?

Or do you just play for fun, with no real desire to improve? 🏅

if not chess i'd be playing other games, why not? watch tv instead? lol. If i really cared about my rating, I wouldn't be tilting 200-400 points some days. I'd be making alt accounts like most of this playerbase or playing non rated games lol.
I golf, guitar, kung-fu and drink as well.
My point is quality and priorities over quantities.
I know when I sit down OTB in my 1200-1500 bracket, that 1200 is stronger than indicated as a product from the 2 years pandemic environment.

You made a great point about not many senior account holders on this forum.
I improve by having fun.
