What's your style of solving puzzles?

Do you sometimes guess? Do you make sure you exhaust every option before making a move? Do you do it all in your head? Do you simulate the puzzle on another board? Do you actually care about your puzzle rating?

Personally I spend time on problems that seem unfamiliar to me but when I see a pattern I recognize (or think I recognize) I try to move on intuition. I also do everything in my head.

I also play a bit of Shogi (Japanese chess) and most professionals will say that puzzles (especially anything under mate in 7) are about repetition and memorization, and it's more efficient to just look at the answer if you don't recognize the pattern after a few seconds. This method essentially makes the concept of "puzzle ratings" useless for non-advanced players but I find the difference in attitude towards puzzles interesting.
