When do you normally resign in a chess match?

I resign when mate is eminent . . . 3 times lately . . .
I only play 3 day move match games . . .
I also thank the opponent for the game . . .
I never used to resign when I was 300 rating higher . . .

I resign when I'm losing and it's clear that playing normally, my opponent would definitely win. Example: the opponent has a free pawn that I cannot stop. Or, I’m one rook down and I have no compensation.
That’s wrong, because it is not at all certain that the opponent plays "normally" from that moment on, and he can always make some mistake, especially when he is sure of winning and relaxes. Mine is a bad habit, but I do it because when I see that the game is lost, I no longer care to continue, in the hope that the opponent makes a blunder.
If the outcome of the game is important to you, don't do it.

I generally don't resign, I usually carry on to the bitter end in the hope that my opponent will blunder a piece or make a mistake resulting in a stalemate. This happens more often than one might think, especially if an opponent is short on time. I will occasionally resign if I'm tilting, but actually even if I go 2 pieces down or blunder a queen, there are lessons to be learned when one is defending a losing position
