When Life Imitates Chess

#28's non sequitur of a comment isn't a pawn, but rather some piece from an entirely different game.

Comparing people to chess pieces are very noble. Most prople dont deserved even being compared to pawns. I prefer to compare people to animal species Most are insects.

Have you ever seen people turn into Monopoly pieces too? What about Stratego?

Where you see a knight I'd probably see a horse's ass.

I am a broke, struggling poker player and I was wondering if the OP would be willing to stake me for $1000 cuz I just had a "When Life Imitates Chess" session where I lost my entire bankroll to a woman, much as a noble, hardworking knight loses its life to a cold-hearted b**ch of a queen (who is actually just a promoted pawn and not a real queen) after she backdoors the knight after a much more worthy person literally watched her back as she marched ontowards advancement, reaping the dividends of all the individuals that sacrificed themselves for her eventual success. And what does she do when she achieves her penultimate promotion and dizzing new heights of power, influence, and prestige? She decides that she is ready to move on, utilizing her newfound range of motion to leave her unappreciated patron behind, and now feeds on backrow, unsuspecting, helpless pawns as a matter of course. As for the noble knight? Oh, hes stuck in a gawd damn corner square blocked in by the wreckage left behind by the aforementioned arrogant b**chy fake queen who is know dicking around on the other side of the board while the mess of angry pieces she left behind her is closing in on the trapped knight looking for a cheap revenge kill. Damn it, whatever happened to protecting the pieces that protect you? So, yeah, anyone got $1k they don't need so I can start all over again without having the suffer through the motions of resetting the board, getting another job, and gradually putting together another bankroll? No? *le sigh* (no chess pieces were actually harmed in the making of this rant).

I represent a member of the Ethiopian royal family. We would be interested in providing you with the capital you need to persue your dream. All you need to do is send me $5,000 to cover international tranfer tax and administrative costs along with your bank account information, and we can make this happen.

This is very sad, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Oh, actually don't feel sad, ou did me a service, unintended though it may be. Your OP let me look at the situation from an angle that gave me a humorous perspective. Thank you. xD I needed the laugh. Continuing with the chess analogy, annoying, thoughtless queens tend to get themselves forked but good, usually by a knight or an opportunistic bishop. Hehe, with luck it'll be a pawn fork, though. The thought gives me warm fuzzies. In the meantime, just gotta start a new game and see what develops. ;)

Glad to hear it, very funny analogy by the way.

Yes, Charlotte Bronte wrote that book.

I thought Jules Verne wrote Journey to the Center of the Earth ?....in staying w/ the theme. And that's Arlene Dahl who's still alive today !

Former World Champion, Garry Kasparov wrote "How life imitates Chess". Has anybody else had this experience, where they begin to see real life people as Chess figures? Or does my experience suggest an abnormal obsession with Chess?

There is a nice classical Vladimir Nabokov's roman "Luzhin Defense" about such perception of reality.

My guess would be that the OP is constipated

Yes, I read in an interview with a GM (name?) who said that he often has associations between situations of everyday life and chess. He said that strong GMs have similar feelings.

That might have been Kasparov. Garry Kasparov, he was a world champion for a bit, good player.
