When playing do you slide pieces or pick them up to move?

Random thought I had today.

i slide them with the absurd notion that my opponent might notice my moves less than if i pick them up to move them

I usually ask my pieces how they'd like to be moved that day. I like to be considerate.

I actually do a mix of both. Knights I pick up and the other peices I slide. With all captures though, I take my opponents peice and the pick up my peice and move it to that square. It would be interesting if this has anything to do with style of play.

Either method is OK in OTB/official chess.

I tend to pick mine up, but I've seen comments on sales sites like Amazon about the difference between mousepad, silicone, and vinyl boards that it's harder to slide pieces on the mousepad board.

I have one large 4.25" king set for which 2.25" squares are a little too tight and the only 2.375" square roll-up board I could find was a mousepad board.  I don't notice the problem because I pick up the pieces except when there's just a few endgame pieces and I don't have to worry about being clumsy and hitting the other pieces.

Whenever possible I like to slide a piece to a square where it would be left en prise, hold it there for a moment while making eye contact with the opponent, then finally resume sliding it to its real destination square.

I have an opening app that you have to touch to pick up and then touch the square to drop it. I find it kind of annoying. I hardly use it

The only way to figure this out is with the RAR:
