When someone blocks me will I still be paired against him? Or only in tournaments? Or never?

My question si when I go on the ban list of another player if I still have a chance to play him, otherwise anyone can block all people he lose with and that is I think unfair.

Seems I read that you could still be paired up in tournaments.  Otherwise...

Once blocked, a member cannot do any of the following:

  • post notes to your account
  • send you messages
  • accept your game seeks
  • be auto-matched with you in open seeks
  • join tournaments that you are running
  • post in content that you created

Also there is a limited number of blocks, I think 20, although I don't know as I've never had to use one... yet wink.png

Thanks for the answer!

I think blocking should be only for messages and direct challenges but not for auto-matched games or tournaments. I hope chess.com changes the rule!

I am near 100 blocks. I block those that are rude or cuss.

You're very welcome Vincent, but I'm a little confused.  With thousands of players in your rating range, why would you want to play someone who dislikes you enough to block you?

vincentgiano

The point is that sometimes when I lose for my concentration mistake i put the blame on the other players who got lucky that I made that mistake and then I provoke them which is a bad behaviour on my side and I am enough honest to admit it. I do not accept defeat when is caused by myself and not by opponent skills! The result is they block me. I know there is 1000 s of players and I know that I deserve a chat ban but the rules on blocking are not fair. There should be only a chat ban and still the possibility of playing again against that player to prove my skills. That is too easy to block someone you lose with or might lose with next time.

I accept it if chess.com gives me a chat ban but I would like them to change the rules on blocking... authomatic challenges should remain. What happens if someone loses against Carlssen and then they block him? Let's say all top players block him. Carlssen wouldnt be able to play against anyone!

I kind of see your point, but don't really agree.  Seems that a much simpler solution is not to annoy your opponents in the first place.  Say it (shout it if you have to), but don't write it...

Monie49

I also block those I am beating and then they "time out."

Vincent - don't annoy your opponents by beating them!

Is there and administrator so we can ask them to change the rules...? It is ok chat ban but not impeding to play that opponent if computer pairs us against! Also I have to propose other improvements to chess.com

There is a whole forum devoted to feedback and suggestions.  Maybe try posting there?

That sounds like the kind of opponent I would block.  Sorry, but that's the way it is. Practice good sportsmanship, and it will no longer be a problem for you.

vincentgiano

I am starting to control my nerves but still if the computer would pair us against each other we miss the opportunity to learn by blocking.

The primary thing that I learn when playing poor-sports is contempt for their character.  There are plenty of players who don't exhibit such bad behavior, so what exactly do I have to gain by playing against a poor sport that I can't gain by playing a true sportsman?

It seems to me that a simple attitude adjustment would help.  It could start with a recognition that everyone makes mistakes playing chess, of varying severity.  When your opponent takes advantage of your mistakes, you should be glad to be playing an opponent who notices the mistakes and capitalizes on them, rather than playing someone who fails to do so, and be respectful enough that they did so that you don't punish them for your failures.  There's your learning opportunity. If you can't accept defeat, then start punishing yourself.  Study harder, do pushups, something productive for penance.  But taunting the winner by claiming they "got lucky" is boorish.

You've admitted the problem, and that's a positive step.  Now do something about it.

Learn to lose fool ,you will always lose more than you will win, grow up and grow a pair, bet you dont say anything when opponents make mistakes.

I have blocked several users for various reasons. Is there a way to see a list of all the users you have blocked so far?

Sure.  Home, settings, Blocking.  On a PC anyway; not a clue about the mobile stuff.

I routinely block people with slow internet connections in short time control games because their clock keeps resetting and that is unfair, my clock runs like crazy and theirs hardly moves then restes, it means I have much less time than them to look at the position. Chess.com only allows this because they are a business and need to expand to all over the world since their are a limited number of players....the only games that are fair on here are longer time controls, then I get an even chance. I will continue to block people with slow connections until this problem is corrected....which will likely not happen in this lifetime because there is money involved....it used to be fair before the lag adjustment but those days are gone.
