where do I start in my quest to get better?

Ok. So I'm an inexperienced chess player. In fact, I'm still trying to interpret the ratings system. I learned to play about 20 years ago while studying abroad one summer. I haven't played much since--until my 3 year old wanted to learn. He's really into any and all board games. So I taught him the basics (about all I know) and now I need to brush up on my game--else get beat by a 5 year old in a couple of years!!!! But my question is, where do I start? I'm looking for something pretty structured, but that I can do at my own pace? It would be nice to have some type of workbook curriculum, but there seems to be a million books out there. Any suggestions are welcomed!

Hi!

My advice:

play as many games as you can ( correspondence or 15minute+) and try out the tactics trainer

Pm me if you have more questions but this should be plenty

Read Bobby Fischer's book on chess. That's all you need :) easy to find. Cause he only wrote one book
