Where to buy a chess table

Hi All,

I can't believe how hard it is to find a chess table with some arm room. Most are small and look more like decor.

So far, I like house of staunton's "Signature Traditional Chess Table" best but that thing is $5,000. Way out of budget.

Their "Camaratta Signature" is nice and I may go with that although the wood is more reddish than I would like as trying to match it with some other furniture.

The "Anastasia Chess Table" at thebestchesstables/com is really nice but looks like they may not be selling anymore. Been trying to contact them.

Aside for these, I can't find anything else on the market that is nice and has ample arm room and just room for whatever else.

Any others out there?

Thanks

Ask the OP where he got the pics.   Do a Google search on the ones you like. Put em on a flashdrive.....bring it to your local chess store.  I just did a random google search of page 4....post 61.....in that thread.   This is what came up. http://llavesconchip.co/chess-set-table/                         Ample arm room heh?............                                                                                                                     null

He got the pics from Google images. The link you posted is like many sites, just pics. Most of those like 99% aren't with the table space I'm looking for either.

I never heard of a local chess store.

Thanks for input though.

You have a some specific ideas in mind, the best approach might be to consider commissioning a local craftsman which would allow you to get it just the right shade of reddish and custom fit to the size of your arms! A number of those pictures in fact do look to be custom work, not mass produced. A chessboard is a rather straightforward project and incorporating it into a table is not especially difficult. I’ve done custom boards for $500-700, probably another $1000 for the table, so long as you aren’t looking for very exotic wood or elaborate detail.

I pulled the trigger on this one...

After hours of searching it works best.

Thanks for the input guys.

Ample arm room for the clock.....extra queens.....scoresheet......maybe even a drink and an ashtray.

House of Staunton, the shipping prices are ridiculous, and the price is also absurd...I'm going to find a local carpenter and see if they can build a similar table for half the price or better.

I agree with the OP, most chess tables are not designed by chess players who know anything about serious chess or who would even use them. Essentially a chess board on four legs with no space around it for a clock, notepad, captured pieces, a snack, drink and elbows/arms is a waste of space. The best plan is to design your own and have it made. But these days a table that is well made, and about the right size, even sans chess board inlay is a crazy price. Unless money has never been an issue, we're stuck using conventional tables with a board placed on top. A normal folding card table works and is big enough to accommodate. Some can be very nice, and they can also serve for bridge and poker nights, cribbage, Monopoly etc. etc. Simply having someone over for a visit is a red letter day at my place. Let alone they stay long enough for a long game of chess!
