Hi,

where could we find all the chess books ever written in English? I would like to create a excel sheet with the information and check off which ones I need left for reading.

Should anyone send me the information, I can share it here. Thanks.

I'm assuming the answer is yes. :)))

Nice!

Probably most chess books on opening are out of date as theory progresses.

If one were to read 20 pages a day, how long would it take one to read all of GM Soltis's works?????

(FYI - I really dig his stuff.)

Certainly a joke. Nonetheless, treating it as a research project, the 3 standard bibliographies by Whyld, Betts, and the Lusis list most but not all texts in English through 1988. After that, you are on your own, with a starting point being the Cleveland Public Libary collection.

Start with the Library of Congress for a list of chess books. When you're done with that list,

Oh, you'll have died of old age before you are done with that list.

Don't forget all of the print-on-demand vanity books on chess...

I'm glad we're being reasonable.

A list of the shoe sizes of all GMs is not reasonable, but Morphy was a ladies 6.

"Chess Competitions 1824-1970" by Gino Di Felice is an invaluable reference for books on chess tournaments. (Yes, I know he's trolling but there are those of interested in such things.)

It is very probable, the (outdated) comparison below with only the US suggests that by language, Russian is a long way behind English, Chinese and I'd suspect, Spanish.  That is likely to apply to chess books too since market size has some effect on the preparedness of publishers to publish.

These are some good books that I found in many articles. Check whether you read them all.

Man, if only somebody had suggested the Library of Congress earlier...

Wouldn't the great collections in Cleveland and Holland also have info on this?
