Where to now?

Marathon runners shouldn't try to be sprinters.

I'm bored. I'm winning too many games of correspondence chess. I put in all this effort and most players treat games like a joke. I take notes. I use what I call "good correspondence technique" which means, amongst other things, that I play through the whole game from move 1 quite a bit to avoid "start up blunders" after having been away from a game for a few days.

I've decided to give up OTB chess. I mean, what's the blasted point doing that? I have all of these chess books within arms reach and I may as well use them.

I'm not getting challenged. Maybe I am on the wrong chess site for CC. I don't know.

All that stands between me and getting to a master standard in CC is probably a good endgame book and some improvement in finishing off the great positions that I get; if I am a soccer team I am much better at creating chances than I am at putting the ball in the net Frown Oh, and the Sicillian defence - can't understand that weird, complicated labyrinth. No problem. I just don't play it lol.

Simple chess for me. No Sicillians Laughing

Frankly I am getting to the stage with correspondence chess where I should be playing against titled players. That said I am happy to play against anybody.

Am I wasting my time on this site for someone whyo takes correspondence chess seriously? What should I do with my ability and interest in chess now?

By the way I have no interest in playing any correspondence chess with computer assistance. No engine could do what I do with 30 minutes of looking at a position, anyway.

If you are that serious, you could join PolarBear's competition.

Sorry. Nice suggestion. One problem though.

I have withdrawn from Polar Bear's group because I don't think that his anti-ICCF group has the right to make accusations against other players.

So thanks. But no thanks.

I'm a little confused.  3 of your last 5 victories were against 1600 players.  Why not just tighten up your game seeks to only play fellow 2000 or at least 1800 players?

I don't set out to exclude players of any level. So far I have played in team events where I end up being put, in theory, against players of a similar rating. But it doesn't seem to work out that way in reality; I often end up playing against people who are a bit lower.

I also don't believe that you can be a good player by excluding anyone; it is important to be able to exploit bad moves that are more common from 1600ish players than they are from, say 2000+ players.

Then I would highly recommend three things:

1.Silman's Endgame book

2.Soltis' "Turning Advantage into Victory in Chess"

3.Fritz Technique Trainer.

Yeah it is pretty bitchin when someone feels ready to take on titled players.  But there is no substitute for OTB.

Just play against higher rated opponents than those that you've been easily beating.  I have no doubt that you'll be able to find a sufficient challenge.  Easy peasy.
