my first book (still reading it) is nimzowitsch - my system. my coach told me this was of one of those best books for beginners to get into chess that covers everything a new player needs
Which book would you recommend I read next?
I'm 75% through amateurs mind and it is great. Thoroughly recommend it is an introduction to positional play, planning, and strategy. I also have My System which I found unreadable (sorry @nasty) and didn't finish it. A big difference I think is Amateurs Mind was written to teach and Jeremy Silman is an excellent and experienced educator. My System was written by Nimzowitsch to introduce and argue his ideas. These aims are not the same and result in quite different books. My recommendation is to go for Amateur's Mind first.
BTW if you go for Amateur's Mind, make sure it is the 2nd edition. It has extra material, 26 tests, where you break down a position and come up with a plan. The fully annotated answers to the tests are also in the book and total nearly 100 pages.

If you're ready to move on from reliance on tactics alone, consider the following...
Good Positional Chess, Planning & Strategy Books for Beginners and Beyond...

I have read about 5 books already.I know it's not much, but have acquired some quality books to read in a specific order.......Started with...1...The Complete idiot's Guide To Chess(loved this one, which really got me appreciating this game and the better players) 2...Discovering Chess Openings ,3...Attacking The King, 4...Simple Attacking Plans, 5...The Winning Way,
I am currently almost finished with...Simple Chess(by Stean) and wish to move on to either
Modern Chess Strategy(Pachman) or The Amateur's Mind, with "maybe" My System as well.
The thing is,I am a bit tired of the tactical books right now and though an experienced member here(who I fear has passed from Covid) recommended that i definitely read the pachman book next,I'd like to start The Amateur's Mind,or My System first.
Just fishing for thoughts and advice,as I deeply respect many members here.
Btw,my approach is a slow/methodcal one.I don't wish to be a Gm,just someone who grows at chess...at my own pace.
Much thanks
