Most Checkmating Moves Position?
The real question here is: "How many moves are there that deliver checkmate?" (any move is either a checkmate or a stalemate)
And another one: "Is this the position with the most number of moves that deliver checkmate?" (it seems that adding knights actually lower the number of checkmates)
Unfortunately, you cannot reach that position in an actual game.
It is white's move and black only has a king, so black's last move must have been a king move.
Every square around the king is guarded by at least 4 queens on separate lines and since it's impossible to quadruple check the king, the king cannot have been on any of the surrounding squares.
the question is how did black even get into this position 😂
i agree , the original posting member need to explain first how black got into this position
Except this isn't a legal position if it's white's turn.
Theres no stalemates in the first image, black has a knight on h8. not sure how bad black has to be to let all 8 pawns promote, or how bad white has to be to not have taken that knight yet, but still. We're here.
White has 101 possible moves to mate black in this position, and with the black knight there it is also legal and possible to reach in a real game. The knight on c1 does block the Qe1 from checking on a1, but it can check on 2 squares, so it adds a checkmate.
