The relative values already tell you the average value. Opening to endgame, they're equal. Kauffman did some stats where he came up with 1/50th of a pawn difference.
Moving on from the absolute basics of relative values, you try to judge each piece's value by the position. For example mobility or being in contact with important defensive or offense points (or having the ability to come into contact with these points in the future).
Strong players like to talk about things like the bishop pair, or bishops being better in endgames, or knights being better with more pawns on the board, which are not untrue, but IMO it's very misleading. All these strong players will also not hesitate to exchange a bishop for a knight even extremely early in the game. Their value simply depends on the specific position they're in.
Notice that this also means 1 knight may not be worth the same as another knight. Often all 8 minor pieces are at slightly different values, and these values change as the game goes on.
Which is better?? knight or bishop??? There both worth 3 pts. P.S I like Knight better.

. If equal which is better in the endgame middle game or opening.
