Agree, if you HAVE to play fast chess try 5 30.
But 45 45 is much better.
Neither is great for imrpovement, however I would consider 5/2 far and away 'better'.
The reason being the 2 second increment can really punish you if you attempt to play for time by sacing pieces to give checks attempting to run your opponents clocks down. Usually with an increment this will result in you losing and should teach you not to play for time.
This is like asking "Which is better to get run over by: a fully loaded logging truck or an empty one?" In addition to slowing down, A LOT, you could try playing a few turn-based games, although I'll be the first to admit they're not everyone's cup of tea. BUT if you can play a few games at a "snails pace" (say 1 day per move) it is a very good way to learn about openings without having to memorize everything you learn
Like I know playing blitz is supposed to be bad, so im trying to go for the lesser evil with 5/2.... what do you guys think?
with 5/2 there seems to be less incentive to just play moves and more incentive to think because the 2 second increment can often allow a win even when you have 30 seconds but a better position versus your oppenent with a worse position but with 3 minutes left....
compared to 5/0 where if its 30 seconds to 3 minutes the 30 seconds often loses no matter what
