It depends on the individual, to each his own, whatever you like, I like chocolate you like vanilla, etc. etc.

A positional crush is much more sadistic... would you rather get a headshot from 500 yards or slowly stack rocks on your opponent until the weight crushes him...

Depends on the personality I guess.  I really admire those tortuous games though.

I don't think Tal liked memorizing openings either.

Who has the most fun? A tactical player with a good position. :)

Depends on the individual, and their playing style.  Personally i just enjoy the travel of OTB tournaments, meeting new people, making new friends, meeting up with old friends, the sites, the experiences, etc.

Now myself?  I fiind alot more pleasure in a win based on slow positional play.  Its far more satisfying watching your opponent squirm, than a quick tactical shot.  but again toeach his own.

So you like slow-torturturing your opponents? Are you also into bondage? Laughing

Who has more fun? Whoever learns more.

Just kidding, the winner obviously does.

Are you calling me sadistic?

As a player who prefers the aggressive, all-out mate, I admit that it is a bit frightening when an opponent is capable of not only fending it off, but squeezing the life out of me with pieces of their own in a manner like that of my profile pic:

Anywhoo, rarely are position and force unaccompanied by one another, as the objective of the game is to kill the other king.

Nice analogy

mitharris

Positional Chess is much more fun than Tactical Chess. I love games where the blood is pumping and each move could cost you the entire game (Not that it doesn't in Tactical Chess, but still, it's much more nerveracking in Positional.)

TeraHammer

youre talking about tactical chess now, mitharris.

Ziryab

Whether I'm playing to mate or trying to squeeze my opponent until his eyeballs pop depends a lot on who I'm playing.

Positional players remind of zombies... They just act like human beings, but they don't feel the rush of adrenaline when hunting someone....

armhow

Everything is fun if you win.

armhow

I think there is no difference between tactical or positional players.  Both are just the same.  Positioning is tactical depending on the peculiarity of the game.  The important thing is to win.

CerebralAssassin

winners have more fun.I don't care how the win comes about, whether through tactical means or positional means.

armhow

I agree with cerebral assasin. what's the point of playing anyway.  It's really to win.  Loosing is one way of taking away the excitement whatever your opponent way of playing might be.
