when the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go

and youve just had some kind of mushroom and your mind is moving slow

Go ask alice, I think she'll know

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead

And the white knight is talking backwards

And the Red Queen off with her head

Remember what the doormouse said

FEED YOUR Head FEED YOUR Head

Similarly to what MSteen said, for me it happens more when I'm trying to get to sleep. You know when you're trying to sleep but you have a song in your head and it won't go away? It's like that but I'm playing chess in my mind instead.

Often the moves don't make sense and weird things happen, and I don't think I've ever "won" or "lost" a game, it's just like my head is scanning through different positional possibilities.

Usually it's mating sequences rather than full games.

Sometimes. I dreamt about playing Kasparov in an old apartment in Amsterdam with nice bay windows. I was white and played a four pawns attack against the King's Indian. Garry (we were on first name terms!) commented that something very interesting was happening in the game because of an idea that he'd never come across before. As a patzer, it was thrilling to think that something I had done was actually of interest to the super-GM. Then, as is typical in dreams, the plot went off on a tangent so the game wasn't finished.

I want to dream of chess but never have yet!

We knew that you would bring her up and did not want to steal your storm.

After I first learned (and was subsequently playing quite a lot) I started to dream in particular moves and patterns, but it stopped after about 2 months.

I dream of chess for 8 hours every single night even though I only play for about 30 minutes a day. It's ruining my life. I don't even study chess. I play for fun. But my brain only wants to think about chess. I guess the only solution is to embrace it and actually start learning how to play.

I actually dreamt of a position with a 4 move endgame combination. I checked with the engines... and it turned out to be an insane 20 move combination endgame

Nice thread. Old, but nice. And yes, I dream about positions once in a while.

Same, I've been dreaming with chess almost every night now.

How do you make yourself remember the games from dreams? Tips please! I started training chess and dream about playing actual games every night. I want to remember them in awaken life. Today actually first time I remember the position before alarm woke me up.  Was playing with an exact player, a very strong GM, whom I know, and she surprised me by not capturing my pawn in pawn exchange but moving her knight back from e5 to f3. ( she was white). I was surprised by this then I woke up. The strange thing is in 4 days I’m playing in a tournament where she plays too! I never played with her & of course have no chance to even playing with her but in my dream I was one of the weakest players in that tournament nich makes sense. I know my dreams are true, I’m being shown the real stuff from life. I’ve have had hundreds of premonition dreams but chess is only recently back in my life. Thanks to my dreams, which showed me my intuition, I work now as a Psychic ( one of my earning streams).

@PraiseKek88 I’m especially interested in how do you remember your chess dreams when you wake up? Please see my comment just above this one. Thanks!

I found a decisive Rook sacrifice in an ongoing Daily game while I was asleep.

These responses are so cool to read! I think dreaming of chess means you’re passionate and your brain doesn’t want to shut off. That’s some dedication lol

I remember having a dream about 8 chess boards stacked on top of each other. And pieces could make their normal moves through the levels. The dream went on for hours. And it was basically just me making move after move with various pieces through the levels (not playing or anything). And it was really interesting, but also really draining and not restful.😆
