I think it's always going to be a debate, and as more and more greats are added to the game the discourse will just be more and more prominent (not saying that those are the GOATs, but they are the people at hand.)

I think The Magster is #1 in EVERY time control AND freestyle. I don't think Hikaru has ever won the official blitz world championship tournament while The Magster has won it 8 times. Let that # sink in..... 8 times. Aaaand Hikaru hasn't won a single one.
