Who is the hardest opponet for you to beat

For some people including me there is that one guy who has like a 1000 rating and you have played him like ten times and almost never win if you have someone like that show him or her hear

evethesnake

Thw hardest player 4 me to beat is one that already has a conditional move prepared, resulting in the reciprocal effect.

WildFireMayhem

The hardest opponent for me to beat is a grandmaster.  Everyone else I have little issue wiping the floor with.

SteelWheels

The hardest opponent to beat is the one with "class", to wit:

1.  One who doesn't boast of his or her superiority; and,

2.  One who extends a handshake after the game, win or lose or draw.

* It's a pitiable sight to see opponents (and there are a few high raters in this category) who forget the tradition of extending a handshake after their games - particularly the lost ones.

So you are saying you feel guilty beating players who exude good sportsmanship?

TheOldReb

I have the hardest time beating my chess "partner(s)". This is usually a good friend that also plays chess and we travel to events together and share all the expenses. I dont even like to be paired against them, let alone beat them. In the US you can ask the TD not to pair you and such a friend/partner and they will avoid doing so for at least the first 2 or 3 rounds. Ofcourse, if the swiss rules for pairings dictate that they must at some point you will still be paired. Today my chess "partner" is also my wife and here we get paired a lot more than we would in the US because they dont have such a courtesy here it seems. It always annoys me when they do pair me with my wife though but we have out methods of fighting this.

My dad when ever we played. It has been many years though. But I at least know I played chess more than him (Him only playing when we would play) but he would always beat me. Drove me nuts.

Same! my dad never plays chess (he used to back in the day) and i still lose to him sometimes! I win 75% of the games but still. its disapointing seeing that i play chess 6 hours a day and he never plays chess and he can beat me sometimes

Great answer.  I'd rather lose to someone with good sportmanship than beat a sore loser, any day.  It's much more enjoyable.

I'm sorry but your aim was wild, and the fire went out with it.

Apparently, you missed the two philosophical points in my message, to wit: the ethics angle (the number 1 statement), and the political angle as well (the number 2 statement).

CoolMy hardest opponet is my oldest chess friend cecil he is 51 myself 49 we have played each other one day a week a 21 game 5min blitz match. When we started playing he would beat me 21 to zip at that time he had a 2100 rating an everyone told me blitz he was stronger i know at game in 10 min he used to beat the then stongest player at our club lee who had a 2225 rating aroud a average score of about 6 points out of a 10 game match on average. He is a very good tactical player to get a win off him is like pulling a tooth from a bengal tiger he scratch an claw at you to the biter end.I have learned a lot off him over the years as the best way to get stronger at chess is to play alot against someone stonger than you.last Sunday i score 6 wins an 2 draws him 13 wins. Now on a bad day i get say 3wins an 3 draws out of 21 games on a good day i have played him almost even however overall i score about 7 points out of 21 points on average. He knows my weak points an stong points as we average about1092 speed chess games a year or about 20,000 games played the last 20 years.we both no longer play slow chess very much.Cecil tells me he thinks i play about 2000 level speedchess up from around 1400 level about 20 years ago.
