who is the undisputed goat of chess

Lasker - he was champion longest (I think) - and - he wasn't a chessplayer! He was a brilliant mathematician, and he did not spend most of his time studying chess. "Undisputed" ? That will never happen! Most brilliant ever: Bobby.

We have threads like this being created every day. This time, instead of just spamming names for 12 or 15 pages, why doesn't everybody post a game showing why your favorite is the greatest of all time? If you are using the phone app or otherwise can't post a game, just post the date and opponent, so we can look it up and play it. Let's make this thread something entertaining as well as useful. Something we can all learn from
What the general populist doesn't understand.... is that through the decades, the top 10% all have had some form of photographic memory. (that is the one true talent you have to have to even think about making the top 10%)
You also have to take into account the modern ELO system is hyper inflated... that means to all you gen x'ers and generation alpha's: Carlsen rating doesn't mean much. (hate to break it to you, but the next WC if he is truly the best of the crop, will break Carlsen's rating peak (due to the hyperinflation )
You take Capablanca, Morphy, Lasker Alekhine ... any of those pre WWI & WWII gifted players.. and given their photographic memory and with what is available now (as far as chess information) given time to study the material, they will be outplaying the current top players. We are talking about people who IMO had a greater understanding of chess... having discovered much of it (previous generations learned it from a book.... they wrote the book.

I suspect that it's one of THESE goats:
The brown one in the top row looks like a London System player.

Thank goodness we have you here

He mistook Bd3 for 'be the tree'

Oh well. Silly me, to hope that a greatest-of-all-time thread on the chess dot com forum would actually be an interesting thread about...chess.

Is it really that difficult for you to fight the London system?
Chapanejo07 contemplated long and hard where to post his question. Considered many topics, until he found the one titled "who is the undisputed goat of chess". Ah yes, this is the one! After all, it has "chess" in the title.
