Who was the all time best
There used to be a guy in my chess club who has never once lost a fair game of chess.
I nominate him.
Alekhine No1 of all time for sure ,have you read his books wow & such cool comments he was a genius.
Alekhine's My Best Games of Chess 1908-1923 is a masterpiece, However his sequel My Best Games of Chess 1924-1937 is a potboiler, hastily written (most of it done blindfold from memory) and full of errors.
Soldier, I love Alekhin's chess, but you should be aware that several of the games he put in his best games collection didn't occur the way he "remembered" them. Still, My Best Games of Chess 1908-1937 is one of my favorite, most beat-up books.
I still think Alekhine was the best ,although Dr.Emanuel Lasker could be considered I have a book by him & it is excellent.
Yea - I don't think Nimzowitsch wrote huge amount of books, but what he wrote was very good indeed (although I read only My system).
Most prolific chess author, Nimzovich by a mile. At the chessboard, it's much more difficult to select between Fischer, Kasparov, and Lasker(for his longevity).
What about Euwe ?
@ SOLDIERPIPER As also a veteran I am curious to know why your date of birth is miss- stated, seems people do this as some kind of wry joke but it doesn't always work that way.?
Left guessing, I guess. Please excuse my commenting, there have been so many conflicts in the period and dob info does give some possible clues.
